Lexxi is a beautiful 10 year old soul who lived her entire in filthy conditions. With no vet care, no attention to fleas or parasites, no care when she developed a hematoma in her ear from shaking her head due to suffering, she had one litter of puppies after another for her owners. When her body gave out and she could have no more litters, she found herself in a shelter. Her skin was raw and her fur tattered from constant chewing and scratching. Her teeth are worn. She was very underweight, she had infections in her ears and eyes, and her nails were so long she could only walk slowly and painfully. The shelter, even though low kill, were resigned to having to end her life. At the last minute, an SCGSR volunteer found Lexxi’s photo on their website and acted immediately to save her. Thinking our volunteers could give her a few days of love and care — Lexxi wildly exceeded our expectations with her strong will to live.
Lexxi has been treated for skin, ear and eye infections. She’s on a healthy diet, she’s getting regular theraputic baths to keep her comfortable. She’s had a Senior Panel (blood, urine, x-rays and heart worm testing), and when she recovers a bit more, she’ll be spayed.
I just two weeks Lexxi has gone from abandoned and in pain, to a dog who runs, plays with toys, sleeps on an orthopedic bed, goes for walks, and a girl who is full of joy. Lexxi still faces a long road, and even when fully treated she will have ongoing issues because of her age. SCGSR is seeking a Hospice Foster Family for Lexxi, where she can live out her life under SCGSR’s care. Please contact socalrescue@gmail.com if you would like to give Lexxi love — at last.
If you can’t foster but can share a little love – please donate to our Hospice Foster program now. During our Double Donation Campaign, your gift will give twice as much care.
