IMPORTANT-SAFETY FIRST!
For the safety of our dogs and the public, SCGSR provides volunteer orientations and training in dog handling. Volunteers who handle dogs at events are required to go through the orientation and training. For convenience we have recorded these sessions and you can watch them here. Every dog is an individual and will react to different situations in a unique manner. Although we do our best to evaluate a dog's temperament, we have not seen every dog in every possible situation. Please use caution with any unfamiliar dog, particularly around young children. Mishaps can have severe consequences for SCGSR, dogs and handlers. Always ask a senior volunteer for guidance when interacting with dogs at adoption events, dog walking, or with dogs in any situation, anywhere, where you have concerns. Remember, safety first!

Solomon

Bio: UPDATE 7/23! Four weeks, five baths, and lots of loving later, Solomon is looking amazing!! His coat is growing back in beautifully, his ears and eyes are clear, and his mobility has improved greatly. Solly has a spectacular dark coat on his body, accented by cream-colored legs and facial markings, and of course, the grey whiskers of wisdom. Solomon is an amazing companion: loving, very gentle, polite, and sweet. Solomon is wonderful with other dogs of all sizes and temperaments--he's a real pacifist, and will give a little whine at barking dogs, as if to say "why can't we be friends?" Sol is great with kids and adults; he never even thinks about jumping up, and he takes treats quietly and gently. He positively prances around the neighborhood on his walks. Solomon would fit in well as a companion to almost any family; he'd do well with a doggie friend or as a treasured only dog. He'd love a home with a yard where he could do little gallops and then roll in the grass, and a friend who'd like to go on walks with him. His only request is that his forever home be feline-free. Oh, and that he get lots of cookies and a comfy bed! Apply to meet this special senior today!

Solomon, or Solly for short, is a beautiful senior Shepherd who's had a long road. Solomon came to SCGSR after being picked up as a stray, suffering from severe dermatitis and lameness in his hind end. Solomon's foster mom is giving him lots of baths, and in a couple of weeks, with some tender, loving care, a good diet, and gentle, consistent exercise, Solly will look like a different dog! He's got the most beautiful, gentle eyes, and an absolutely stunning sable color in his coat. Solomon is housebroken and a real gentleman in the house. He's relearning his leash manners, and gets along well with other dogs. Solomon is looking for a family with a soft doggie bed and love to give. There's nothing more grateful than a senior dog--they always know that they've been saved. Solly will be a wonderful companion to a lucky, big-hearted person. • If you would like to meet one of our dogs, please read the following information. The first step is for you to fill out our online application. This is the starting point in adopting from SCGSR. We strive to keep our website current within 24 hours. If you see a dog on our site, it is most likely available. The more information you give us about your dog experience, your home, your fence, children and other pets, the better we can do to match you with one of our dogs. Keep in mind that we may be working with prior applicants, and be patient. We are all volunteers and we will try to respond within 72 hours.

  • Our adoption donations are tax deductible and range from $300 up. Rescuing dogs without public subsidies is expensive. If you don't want to pay our adoption donations, please consider adopting directly from a publicly sponsored shelter. SCGSR dogs will be spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and in most instances they will be microchipped. To those big hearted people willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems, we will work with you on adoption donation amounts.

  • The adoption process involves an application, a telephone interview, a meeting with our dogs and then a home and fence check. In certain cases photos of your house and yard may be substituted for a home check. SoCal Rescue typically does not adopt puppies outside of San Diego County, so that we can provide continued support to adopters as puppies grow up. Adult adoptions out of area will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
